On July 28, 2019, at approximately 1:45AM, Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to the area of West Grass Lake Road and Hillside Avenue, Unincorporated Antioch, for a traffic crash, involving a motorcycle, with injuries.
Sheriff’s Deputies arrived and found the motorcycle driver with critical injuries. Deputies discovered the driver of the other involved vehicle, a 2014 Chrysler 200, fled from the scene.
Preliminary investigation shows a 2000 Harley Davidson XL1200S, driven by a 30-year-old female of Fox Lake, was traveling westbound on Grass Lake Road, just east of Hillside Avenue. The driver of the Chrysler, later identified as a 26-year-old male of Unincorporated Antioch, was traveling eastbound on Grass Lake Road. For an unknown reason, the driver of the Harley Davidson crossed the double-yellow lines and struck the eastbound Chrysler. The driver of the Chrysler fled from the scene following the crash.
The driver of the Harley Davidson was transported via ambulance to Advocate Condell Medical Center with very serious injuries.
The driver of the Chrysler fled to a restaurant in the 25400 block of West Bluff Lane, Unincorporated Antioch, and reported his vehicle stolen. While being questioned about the stolen vehicle, the driver admitted he was indeed driving at the time of the crash, and his vehicle had not been stolen. The driver of the Chrysler was transported to an area hospital for toxicology testing.
No charges have been filed yet, however; they are likely in the future.
The crash remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit.
