[ARCHIVED] Lake County Sheriff’s Office Participating in 2019 Speed Awareness Day

Speed Awareness

During Illinois Speed Awareness Day this July 24th, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office will again be taking a proactive approach to promote safety for motorists, pedestrians, and cyclists through education and enforcement.  In Illinois during 2017, speed was the reason for 42% of all fatal crashes.  That’s 462 deaths for one year, or one life every 19 hours.  Lives can be saved by being aware of the dangers of speeding and understanding how speeding impacts a crash.

Sheriff John Idleburg said, “We say it time and time again – speed kills.  It’s not worth risking your life or the lives of others trying to save a few minutes in drive time by speeding.  We want everyone traveling on our roadways to arrive alive, so please slow down.”
