[ARCHIVED] Beach Park Car Versus Bicyclist Crash

On July 20, 2019, at approximately 1:20AM, Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the area of Sheridan Road and Mawman Avenue, Beach Park, for a car versus pedestrian traffic crash with injuries.

Sheriff’s Deputies arrived and found the victim, a 63-year-old male of Waukegan, laying on the roadway with serious injuries.  The male was transported via ambulance to Vista East Medical Center in Waukegan for treatment.

Preliminary investigation shows the man was riding a bicycle, traveling northbound on Sheridan Road.  As he was traveling northbound, he was struck by a northbound vehicle, which then fled from the scene.  After being on the scene for approximately one hour an individual called from the 2600 block of Gilboa Avenue, Zion, advising their daughter, a 20-year-old female of Zion, struck a pedestrian on Sheridan Road.

Crash investigators responded to the driver’s home and located both the driver and the vehicle.  The driver cooperated with crash investigators and the vehicle, a 2016 Chevrolet Passenger Car, has been impounded while the investigation continues.

The bicyclist remains at Vista East Medical Center with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

No criminal charges have been filed at this time pending the continuation of the investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit.
