This fall, Lake County Public Works will be sending a survey asking homeowners and businesses to review items that they may have that are connected to the public drinking water supply (i.e., irrigation system, private well, fire sprinkler system, swimming pool, etc.). An installed device (backflow preventer) may be necessary to protect the public water system and your family from a potential “cross connection." As a public water supplier, we are required by the State of Illinois to maintain an active cross connection control program to protect the safety of water consumers. The purpose of the survey will be to highlight the importance of maintaining a safe drinking water system, identify items that will require a backflow preventer, and outline the dangers associated with cross connections that do not have a backflow device installed.
We encourage all Public Works customers to participate in the survey this fall, as it will help us determine if any potential sources exist that may contribute to accidental contamination to our drinking water supply.
