On July 2, 2019, at approximately 2:25PM, Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a single-vehicle traffic crash in the 100 block of Carriage Road, North Barrington. Upon the arrival of Sheriff’s Deputies they found the vehicle involved in the crash was hauling a pesticide, which was leaking.
Preliminary investigation shows the driver of a 2007 Ford Truck, a 27-year-old male of Alsip, fell asleep while driving. After falling asleep, the vehicle drove off the roadway and struck a tree. The man was working for a mosquito abatement company and driving a company vehicle.
The container holding the pesticide leaked, spilling approximately 75 gallons onto the ground. The pesticide did not go airborne and fire department officials determined there was not a risk to the community in the immediate area.
The mosquito abatement company contacted an environmental service to clean the spilled chemicals.
The driver of the Ford was uninjured, and Carriage Road remains partially impacted while cleanup efforts are underway.
