At approximately 4:25 a.m. on April 25, 2019, a large release of anhydrous ammonia occurred on Green Bay Road and Clarendon St. in Beach Park. The release affected residents of Beach Park, Wadsworth, and Zion, as well as people traveling through the area. Approximately 40 people were transported via ambulance to local hospitals.
The Lake County Health Department is working with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to investigate the health impacts of the incident. This Saturday, May 11, CDC staff will begin door-to-door interviews with residents living within a one-mile radius of the spill.
