Beach Park Chemical Spill Health Investigations Continue

At approximately 4:25 a.m. on April 25, 2019, a large release of anhydrous ammonia occurred on Green Bay Road and Clarendon St. in Beach Park. The release affected residents of Beach Park, Wadsworth, and Zion, as well as people traveling through the area. Approximately 40 people were transported via ambulance to local hospitals.

The Lake County Health Department is working with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to investigate the health impacts of the incident. This Saturday, May 11, CDC staff will begin door-to-door interviews with residents living within a one-mile radius of the spill.

We encourage you to please take part in the survey if you are asked. Your participation will help the CDC understand the health impacts of the spill and help guide future incident response.

If you have questions/concerns about the environmental impact of the spill, please contact the Health Department at (847) 377-8020. For information about anhydrous ammonia exposure or the CDC interviews this Saturday, contact Communicable Disease at (847) 377-8130.
