On Sunday, April 7, 2019, Illinois Governor Pritzker signed Tobacco 21 into law. Effective July 1, the legal sales age for tobacco products and electronic smoking devices in Illinois will be raised from 18 to 21.
The Lake County Board and Board of Health celebrates the passage of the Tobacco 21 law which will help prevent the next generation of smokers in Lake County. We would like to recognize the Health Department team, community members and student groups who have worked to advance Tobacco 21 policy, and the 13 municipalities in Lake County who passed Tobacco 21 at the local level.
