On April 8, 2019, at approximately 6:10PM, Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to the area of Route 137 just east of I-94, Unincorporated Lake Bluff, for a report of a person who jumped off the Route 137 overpass onto the below railroad tracks.
Sheriff’s Deputies arrived and found a person did in fact jump off the overpass. Preliminary investigation shows a 28-year-old man of Libertyville was driving a vehicle westbound on Route 137. There was a 42-year-old man in the passenger seat of the vehicle.
The passenger reported as they were driving westbound, the driver for any unknown reason, opened his door and intentionally fell out of the moving vehicle into the roadway. Witnesses reported the driver then got up, jumped off the overpass, and fell onto the railroad tracks, approximately 30-feet below the roadway.
The driver was seriously injured and transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville with serious injuries.
It appears the driver was in mental health crisis and attempted to inflict self-harm. In addition to treatment for his injuries, medical personnel will evaluate the man’s mental health.
