On April 17, 2016, at approximately 6:50PM, Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to the area of Fox River Road and Hickory Nut Grove Road, in Unincorporated Cary, for a single-vehicle traffic crash with injuries. Upon the arrival of deputies, they found a 49 year-old man, of Cary, was involved in a motorized minibike crash, with serious injuries.
Preliminary investigation shows the driver of the minibike was traveling westbound on Fox River Road, east of Hickory Nut Grove Road. According to a witness, the man took one of his hands off the handlebars and lost control of the minibike. He was ejected from the minibike and struck his head on the pavement. The driver was not wearing a helmet. He was subsequently flown via Flight for Life to Condell Hospital, in critical condition.
Based on the preliminary investigation, it appears alcohol played a factor in the crash. The crash remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit.
