Following a thorough investigation by Lake County Sheriff’s Traffic Crash Investigators, the driver of the 2011 Kia Soul, a 17-year-old of Round Lake Beach, was found to be at-fault for the traffic crash. Crash investigators reviewed the case with the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office and the juvenile was subsequently charged on March 9, 2019, with Improper Lane Usage and Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid an Accident.
The juvenile will appear in Waukegan Courtroom T510 on April 11, 2019, at 9:00AM.
Sheriff Idleburg reminds the public all defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.

The driver of the Toyota was pronounced deceased. The Lake County Coroner’s Office will conduct an autopsy on Tuesday. The crash is being investigated as a fatal traffic crash and remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit.
Critical Warren Township Crash (issued 7/29/18)
On July 28, 2018 at approximately 4:35PM, Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the area of Route 45 north of West Cottage Avenue, Warren Township, for a traffic crash with injuries.
Preliminary investigation shows a 2011 Kia Soul, driven by a male juvenile of Round Lake Beach, was traveling northbound on Route 45. For an unknown reason, the driver of the Kia crossed the double-yellow center lane divider and entered the southbound lane of traffic. The Kia Soul struck a southbound 2003 Toyota Corolla, driven by a 70-year-old female of Grayslake.
The first Sheriff’s Deputy arrived and found a small fire in the engine compartment of the Toyota. The Sheriff’s Deputy successfully extinguished the fire with a fire extinguisher.
The driver of the Kia sustained non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Toyota sustained critical, life-threatening injuries. Both were transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.
The crash remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit.
