On February 22, 2019, at approximately 6:40PM, Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to Rollins Road and Route 45, Avon Township, for a traffic crash with injuries. Sheriff’s Deputies arrived and found three vehicles with major damage.
Preliminary investigation shows a 2002 Chevrolet Suburban, driven by a 22-year-old man of Round Lake Beach was traveling eastbound on Rollins Road. The traffic light for Rollins Road traffic at Route 45 was red. The driver of the Chevrolet disobeyed the red light and entered the intersection, striking a northbound 2005 Honda Accord, driven by a 33-year-old man of Grayslake. The Honda then struck a 2013 Subaru Legacy (which was stopped facing westbound on Rollins Road just east of the intersection), driven by a 54-year-old man of Third Lake.
The driver of the Chevrolet was ejected from his vehicle. He was transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Honda was transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver and a 16-year-old female passenger in the Subaru were uninjured.
The crash remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit.
