[ARCHIVED] State-wide Tobacco 21 Bill Reintroduced

On Tuesday, February 5 Health Department Executive Director and IPHA Legislative Chair, Mark Pfister represented three public health associations at a press conference and provided testimony to the Senate Public Health committee to reintroduce the ‘Tobacco 21’ bill, which was vetoed last year by the Governor.

Senate bill 21 (SB21) passed out of committee and will now move to the Senate floor for approval.

In the State of Illinois, over 35 communities have adopted Tobacco 21 ordinances, of which 40% are located in Lake County alone. In Lake County, 50% of the population between the age of 18-21 is currently covered by a local Tobacco 21 ordinance.
