Sheriff John Idleburg is pleased to announce the appointment of Lawrence ‘Larry’ E. Oliver to the position of Undersheriff.  Larry’s appointment is effective Wednesday, January 16, 2019.

Larry served at the Lake County Sheriff’s Office for nearly 30 years before his retirement in 2008.  During his time at the Sheriff’s Office he served in the Highway Patrol Division, Criminal Investigations Division, Special Investigative Unit for Organized Crime and Vice, Lake County Metropolitan Enforcement Group (MEG), and as an Evidence Technician.  Larry also served as the Field Commander of the Sheriff’s Office Tactical Response Team and as Director of Training.

During his decades serving at the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Larry served with professionalism and was a proven leader, earning the respect of those he served with.  He trained numerous sheriff’s deputies, received frequent citizen commendations, and many internal and external awards.

Since Larry’s retirement from the Sheriff’s Office, he’s worked in Afghanistan and the Middle East, providing U.S. and Coalition Forces training and support in Counter Terrorism, close quarter battle, defensive tactics, mission planning, and leadership mentoring.  Additionally, he has provided defensive tactics training to the DEA at Quantico and the U.S. Coast Guard MSST Team.

Undersheriff Oliver will be responsible to oversee the day-to-day operations of the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.  This includes the Corrections Division, Administration Division, and Operations Division, which encompass all employees of the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff John Idleburg said, “I am so pleased Larry Oliver will be rejoining our team as our Undersheriff.  I have absolute confidence in his leadership abilities, internal knowledge of the Sheriff’s Office, service-driven talents to the community, values, and organizational vision.  Larry is excited to return to countywide service after serving our Country in the Middle East, and we look forward to having him back.”
