[ARCHIVED] *Update* Charges Filed Against Victim’s Husband

James Ruman

*Update* Charges Filed Against Victim’s Husband

Following a thorough investigation, Sheriff’s Detectives determined James A. Ruman, 52, strangled his wife, Despina Ruman, 47, inside their home.  Ruman waited a significant amount of time before contacting authorities.  He was at the home upon the arrival of initial responding Sheriff’s Deputies.  He’s been in custody since that time.

The Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office approved the charge of First Degree Murder for James Ruman.  He is due in Lake County Courtroom T110 this afternoon for an initial hearing.

Sheriff Idleburg reminds the community all suspects are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.

Grant Township Death Investigation (issued 12/31/18)

On December 31, 2018, at approximately 3:25AM, Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to a residence in the 34100 block of North Broomsedge Road, Grant Township, for an assist ambulance call.

Sheriff’s Deputies arrived and found a woman inside the residence deceased.  She had suspicious injuries on her body.  Preliminary information indicates the woman is a 47-year-old resident of the home.  A 52-year-old male (person of interest) of the same residence is in police custody.

The Lake County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene and an autopsy is scheduled for later today.

This appears to be an isolated incident and there is no risk to the community.

The death investigation is in the initial stages and more information will be released as it’s available.
