[ARCHIVED] Sheriff’s Office Investigating Volo Armed Robbery Involving Broken-Down Vehicle Ruse

On December 20, 2018, at approximately 6:10PM, Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the 31600 block of North Fisher Road, Volo, for a report of an armed robbery.  The offenders in the armed robbery used a ruse that their car had broken-down to entice the victim to pull over.

Preliminary investigation shows the victim was traveling southbound on Fisher Road, when he was flagged down by a group of male individuals standing next to what appeared to be a broken-down GMC Pick-Up (described as a black newer model pick-up).  The victim pulled over to see if he could assist with the broken-down vehicle.  As soon as the victim stopped, a male pointed a handgun at him and ordered him to get out of his car.  The four offenders (one armed with the handgun and one armed with a knife) then entered the victim’s vehicle and stole several items.  The offenders then fled southbound from the scene.

The offenders are described as adult males of Hispanic descent.  All were wearing black hooded sweatshirts at the time.

Sheriff’s Detective continue to investigate this incident and anyone with information is encouraged to call the Sheriff’s Office at 847-549-5200.

As a reminder, if you observe a broken-down vehicle, notify law-enforcement rather than pulling over to check on it yourself.
