On March 23, 2016, following the shooting of two men, Lake County Sheriff's Gang Task Force investigators positively identified David C. Rivera, 28, as the shooter. An arrest warrant was issued on March 24 for Rivera, of the 2000 block of N Jackson Street in Waukegan.

The arrest warrant is for two counts of Aggravated Battery with a Firearm (Class X Felony) and three counts of Aggravated Unlawful Discharge of a Firearm (Class 1 Felony). The bail amount on the arrest warrant was set at $150,000.00.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office Warrants Division began searching for Rivera and developed information he likely fled the area. The Sheriff’s Office Warrants Division in collaboration with the United States Marshal Service (USMS)-Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force and the Florida/Caribbean Regional Fugitive Task Force developed information that Rivera was likely in Middleburg, Florida (Clay County).

On April 6, 2016, Rivera was taken into custody by the USMS-Florida/Caribbean Regional Fugitive Task Force in Middleburg, Florida. Rivera will appear in Clay County Court for extradition hearings.

Sheriff Mark Curran praised the collaborative efforts of those investigating this incident, saying, “I am proud of the diligent work conducted by the Sheriff’s Gang Task Force, who quickly identified the offender involved in the shooting. Due to the hard work of the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Warrants Division and U.S. Marshal Service, another violent wanted felon, who fled prosecution, was located and taken into custody.”

Sheriff Curran reminds the public that the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
