On March 23, 2016, following the shooting of two men, Lake County Sheriff's Gang Task Force investigators positively identified David C. Rivera, 28, as the shooter. An arrest warrant was issued on March 24 for Rivera, of the 2000 block of N Jackson Street in Waukegan.
The arrest warrant is for two counts of Aggravated Battery with a Firearm (Class X Felony) and three counts of Aggravated Unlawful Discharge of a Firearm (Class 1 Felony). The bail amount on the arrest warrant was set at $150,000.00.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office Warrants Division began searching for Rivera and developed information he likely fled the area. The Sheriff’s Office Warrants Division in collaboration with the United States Marshal Service (USMS)-Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force and the Florida/Caribbean Regional Fugitive Task Force developed information that Rivera was likely in Middleburg, Florida (Clay County).
On April 6, 2016, Rivera was taken into custody by the USMS-Florida/Caribbean Regional Fugitive Task Force in Middleburg, Florida. Rivera will appear in Clay County Court for extradition hearings.
Sheriff Mark Curran praised the collaborative efforts of those investigating this incident, saying, “I am proud of the diligent work conducted by the Sheriff’s Gang Task Force, who quickly identified the offender involved in the shooting. Due to the hard work of the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Warrants Division and U.S. Marshal Service, another violent wanted felon, who fled prosecution, was located and taken into custody.”
Sheriff Curran reminds the public that the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
Two Shot in Beach Park
On March 23, 2016, at approximately 6:52PM, Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to 39082 N Sheridan Road, Beach Park (McDonald’s), for a report of two individuals that had been shot. Sheriff’s Deputies arrived and located two adult males that were shot. Both were transported via ambulance to local hospitals. Both victims are expected to survive.
Preliminary investigation revealed the shooting took place on Yorkhouse Road just west of North Sheridan Road. The victims were inside their vehicle when their vehicle was shot. Both the driver and passenger suffered gunshot wounds. They then drove to McDonald’s, where they went inside and asked for employees to call 911.
Lake County Sheriff’s Office Evidence Technicians are collecting evidence at both scenes. The Lake County Sheriff’s Gang Task Force and Sheriff’s Detectives are continuing the investigation, canvassing the area, speaking with potential witnesses, and seeking possible video surveillance.
