On December 11, 2018, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Warrants Team in conjunction with the U.S. Marshals Service-Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force (USMS-GLRFTF) apprehended Giovanni M. Smith, 29, of the 400 block of 10th Street, North Chicago. Smith is a documented street gang member.
Smith was wanted on a $75,000.00 arrest warrant for Aggravated Battery of a Pregnant Woman, and two counts of Domestic Battery (warrant issued following an investigation by the North Chicago Police Department in September).
On December 11th, members of the Sheriff’s Warrants Team developed information indicating Smith was at a residence in the 1800 block of Hebron Avenue, Zion. He was arrested without incident and transported to the Lake County Jail where he remains held on $40,000.00 bail. He is next due in court on December 14, 2018 at 9:00AM in courtroom T110.
North Chicago Police are also investigating an incident which occurred on December 5th where Smith is suspected of being the driver in a vehicle which fled from police officers in the area of Route 41 and Route 137.
Sheriff Idleburg reminds the public the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
