The Lake County Sheriff's Office Cybercrimes Unit along with the Lake County State's Attorney's Cybercrimes Unit conducted an investigation into suspected child pornography.
The investigation resulted in an executed search warrant in the 500 block of Shorely Drive, Barrington, on Wednesday, April 6, 2016.
John P. Malecki, 45, who resides at the same address, was arrested following the investigation. Evidence was seized from his residence which included multiple electronic devices capable of storing digital media.
A forensic examination of the media devices revealed over 10,000 videos and images identified as child pornography, many of which involved children under the age of 13.
Malecki was subsequently charged with ten counts of Possession of Child Pornography, each a Class 2 Felony. Each count carries a possible prison term of 3 to 7 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.
Due to the large volume of child pornography, additional digital forensics will be conducted and additional charges are possible.
Malecki is currently being held in the Lake County Jail on $150,000.00 bail. His next court date is scheduled for April 8, 2016 at 9:00AM in courtroom C-120.
