Based on evidence collected at the scene, Sheriff’s Crash Investigators believe the vehicle involved in this hit-and-run could be one of the following:


2001-2005 Buick Century

2001-2004 Buick Regal

2001-2006 Chevrolet Impala

2002-2005 Chevrolet Monte Carlo

2002 Oldsmobile Intrigue


Investigators are working to determine the color of the striking-vehicle.

Original Release:


On December 1, 2018, at approximately 6:45PM, Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to the area of West Crescent Avenue and Northern Avenue, Waukegan Township, for a fatal hit-and-run traffic crash.  Waukegan Police Department was already on the scene, as they were dispatched to the area for a person down.


Preliminary information shows a pedestrian, a 63-year-old man of Waukegan Township, was struck by a vehicle as he was walking on Crescent Avenue, just east of Northern Avenue.  The driver of the striking vehicle then fled the scene.  The man was located in the front yard of a residence in the 12400 block of West Crescent Avenue.  He was subsequently transported to Vista East Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased.


Traffic crash investigators collected evidence at the scene and are speaking with nearby homeowners to determine if they witnessed the fatal crash.


An autopsy is being scheduled by the Lake County Coroner’s Office.
