***Original Media Release (below)***

On November 2, 2018, at approximately 4:45AM, Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to a residence in the 13200 block of West Greenview Drive, Wadsworth, for a burglary in progress.  The 911 caller indicated a man was attempting to burglarize her car.

Sheriff’s Deputies, including a Canine Team, arrived and located the suspect in the area.  The man ran from deputies.  The man entered a running vehicle (warming-up) in a driveway in the 13300 block of West Greenview Drive.  The vehicle he entered did not belong to him, but belonged to the homeowner.  The suspect attempted escaping in the vehicle but crashed into a tree.  The suspect brandished a pistol and one of the sheriff’s deputies shot the man.  The firearm was subsequently recovered from the suspect.

The man was transported to a local hospital in critical condition.

This appears to be an isolated incident and there is no active threat to the community.

Per protocol and state law, the Lake County Major Crime Task Force was requested to conduct an independent investigation of the officer-involved shooting.

Additional information will be released as it becomes available.
