On October 12, 2018, a Deerfield man was arrested for Indecent Solicitation of a Child.
Jeffrey R. Weiss, 59, of the 300 block of South Waukegan Road, Deerfield, communicated with who he believed was a 14-year-old boy on an electronic social networking application. The “14-year-old boy,” was actually a Detective with the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Cybercrimes Unit.
Weiss requested to meet with who he though was the 14-year-old boy to engage in sexual acts. He drove to a location in Warren Township on October 12th at approximately 1:30PM to meet with the boy, but was instead met by Sheriff’s Detectives.
Weiss was arrested and subsequently charged with two counts of Indecent Solicitation of a Child (one being a class 3 felony and one being a class 4 felony).
Weiss is being held at the Lake County Jail pending a bond hearing this morning.
Sheriff Mark Curran said, “This is the second internet crimes against children arrest by our cybercrimes unit in just seven days. Children with unsupervised access to a cellular device or the internet can be very dangerous. Parents should remember to continually monitor their children’s use of electronics.”
Sheriff Curran reminds the public the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
