[ARCHIVED] Fatal Antioch Township Hit-And-Run (Update)

 *UPDATE – Driver Charged*

On September 12, 2018 a Lake County Grand Jury indicted Abby C. Hansen, 18, of the 37000 block of North Hillside Drive, Lake Villa Township, on one count of Leaving the Scene of a Fatal Accident (Class 1 Felony). A $75,000.00 stayed warrant was issued pending arraignment on September 26, 2018. On that date, a Lake County Judge issued Hansen a $75,000.00 Personal Recognizance Bond pending a court date on November 27, 2018 in courtroom T710.

Sheriff Curran reminds the public the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.  

*Update – Offending Vehicle Located (6/12/18)*

After extensive investigation Lake County Sheriff’s Crash Investigators and Highway Patrol Deputies located a 2012 Suzuki Grand Vitara, which had damage consistent with striking a pedestrian, at an Antioch body shop.  The vehicle was seized and transported to a secure evidence storage facility for further processing.


Nobody is in custody at this time and crash investigators are speaking with the owners of the vehicle.


*Update – Possible Offending Vehicle (6/11/18)*


Based on evidence collected at the scene, Lake County Sheriff’s Crash Investigators believe the vehicle that struck the pedestrian is a Suzuki Vitara or a Suzuki Sidekick.  Investigators are working to determine the year and color of the vehicle.

Fatal Antioch Township Hit-And-Run


On Saturday, June 9, 2018, at approximately 9:30PM, Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the area of West Grass Lake Road and North Sunset Drive, Antioch Township, for a traffic crash with injuries, involving an adult pedestrian.


Sheriff’s Deputies arrived and found the male pedestrian on Grass Lake Road (on the north shoulder, approximately 500 feet east of Sunset Drive) critically injured.  The man was transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, where he was pronounced deceased.  The driver that struck the man fled the scene in the striking-vehicle, prior to the arrival of Sheriff’s Deputies.


An autopsy of the pedestrian is being scheduled by the Lake County Coroner’s Office.  Efforts to identify the pedestrian are ongoing.


Anyone with information on the hit-and-run is encouraged to call the Lake County Sheriff’s Office at 847-549-5200 or Lake County CrimeStoppers at 847-662-2222.  The Sheriff’s Office is asking all area body/repair shops to report any suspicious damage or damage consistent with this incident.  


The crash remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit.
