[ARCHIVED] Inmates on Modified Lockdown During Jail Elevator Renovation

September 21, 2018

In an effort to be transparent and inform the public about operational changes in the Jail, Lake County announces that the Jail is on a “Modified Lockdown” for the next several months until the completion of the Jail Elevator Modernization Project.

During this project, Corrections Officers will have limited access to the elevators. To mitigate risk and protect the safety of both inmates and correctional officers, inmates will be allowed four hours of access outside of their pods for activities, such as exercise and access to phones.

During normal operations, all inmates in a pod can have up to 14 hours of access to activities each day. During the Modified Lockdown, half of the inmates in the pod will have two hours during the a.m. shift and two hours during the p.m. shift. The elevator renovation project is expected to be completed by April 2019.

Additionally, starting in early October, as part of the renovation of the Jail Booking and Reception area, visitors will not be able to meet with inmates in person. This will be in place likely until early fall 2019. The video visitation system will continue to be a practical option for inmates and visitors to communicate.
