As a result of a death which occurred at the Lake County Jail, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office contacted the Lake County Major Crime Task Force to begin an immediate investigation, per protocol.
On July 17, 2018, a 31-year-old man of Park City was brought to the Lake County Jail on felony charges. He’s been in custody at the Lake County Jail for the last 64 days.
On September 19, 2018 at approximately 11:05AM, the man was found unresponsive, alone, in his cell, in the Administrative Segregation Unit (ASU). ASU is the maximum-security section of the jail, and all cells only house one inmate per cell. The inmate was placed in ASU due to disruptive behavior and threatening harm toward other inmates.
First-aid and an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) were administered. Waukegan Paramedics arrived on the scene, continued life-saving measures, and transported the man to Vista East Hospital in Waukegan, where he was subsequently pronounced deceased.
In August of 2018, a Lake County Judge found the man unfit to stand trial on his charges and he was ordered held until the Illinois Department of Human Services determined appropriate placement/treatment.
The Lake County Major Crime Task Force is on the scene conducting the independent investigation. The Lake County Coroner’s Office will conduct an autopsy tomorrow afternoon.
