Lake County, IL – Lake County Sheriff’s deputies issued a total of 83 speeding citations within 24 hours, beginning July 25, during a Speed Awareness Traffic Safety Campaign. The Lake County Sheriff’s Office is taking a proactive approach to promote safety for motorists, pedestrians, and cyclists through both education and enforcement.
According to illinoisspeedawarenessday.org, speed accounted for the following outcomes in 2016:
- Speed accounted for 32.2% of all crashes
- Speed accounted for 34.2% of all fatal crashes
- Speed accounted for 37.8% of injury crashes
Sheriff Mark Curran stated, “Lives can be saved by obeying speed limits and understanding how speeding impacts a crash. Slow down and arrive alive.”
