On Saturday, June 23, Deputy Somerville and K-9 Diesel responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle at an apartment complex in the 32000 block of N John Mogg Road in Grayslake. During the encounter with the suspicious vehicle’s occupants, the odor of cannabis was detected by Deputy Somerville. Deputy Somerville deployed K-9 Diesel to sniff the exterior of the vehicle. K-9 Diesel alerted on the exterior door seam, indicating the odor of narcotics coming from the interior of the vehicle. K-9 Diesel then searched the interior and alerted in two areas inside the car.
The following items were located and seized:
A total of 123.5 grams of cannabis packaged in baggies.
Paraphernalia including a scale, packaging material, a glass pipe and a used hypodermic syringe containing heroin.
2.5 grams of cocaine.
The driver of the vehicle, Lewis E. Shamberg, of the 33000 block of N Greentree Road in Grayslake was arrested and charged with Possession of Cannabis with Intent to Deliver (class 3 felony), Possession of Cannabis (class 4 felony), Possession of a Controlled Substance (class 4 felony), Possession of drug paraphernalia (class A misdemeanor), Possession of a hypodermic syringe (class A misdemeanor).
Shamberg is being held in the Lake County Jail on a $20,000 bond and his next court date is set for June 27.
Residents of the apartment complex recently voiced concerns about possible drug activity in the parking lots.
Sheriff Curran reminds the public the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty by a court of law.
