The Lake County Sheriff’s Office conducts tobacco compliance checks at establishments selling tobacco products throughout Lake County. The compliance checks are intended to ensure businesses vending tobacco are not selling to anyone under the age of 18, and those falling under the jurisdiction of Lake County ordinances are not selling to anyone under the age of 21. In May, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office concluded its second round of compliance checks for 2018. Of the 68 establishments tested, two of them sold tobacco to someone under the age of 18 and one violated the Lake County ordinance of selling to someone under the age of 21.Establishments and Clerks in Violation:Establishment:Tobacco Outlet41474 North Route 41, WadsworthClerk:Singh Radwinder, 27Date of Sale: May 21, 2018Establishment:Wadsworth Shell Station41867 North Route 41, WadsworthClerk:Muhammed Yaseen, 58Date of Sale: May 21, 2018County Ordinance Violation (sale to person under 21 years of age):Establishment:Country Corner1741 Diamond Lake Road, Libertyville TownshipClerk:Ramesh Barot, 64Date of Sale: May 29, 2018The individuals who sold tobacco to minors under the age of 18 were issued state-statute violations and are due in Waukegan court.
