[ARCHIVED] Tobacco Compliance Checks Results

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office conducts tobacco compliance checks at establishments selling tobacco products throughout Lake County.  The compliance checks are intended to ensure businesses vending tobacco are not selling to anyone under the age of 18, and those falling under the jurisdiction of Lake County ordinances are not selling to anyone under the age of 21.

In May, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office concluded its second round of compliance checks for 2018.  Of the 68 establishments tested, two of them sold tobacco to someone under the age of 18 and one violated the Lake County ordinance of selling to someone under the age of 21.

The individuals who sold tobacco to minors under the age of 18 were issued state-statute violations and are due in Waukegan court.  The individual who sold tobacco to someone over the age of 18, but under 21, was issued a Lake County Ordinance violation.

Sheriff Curran reminds the public the defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
