On May 31, 2018, at approximately 11:00PM, Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the area of West Ivanhoe Road and West Brown Road, Wauconda Township, for a traffic crash with injuries. When Sheriff’s Deputies arrived they located a 2018 Subaru WRX with extensive damage. The driver of the vehicle, a 51 year-old man of Island Lake, was unconscious and entrapped inside the vehicle.
Firefighters and paramedics were able to remove the man from the vehicle, and he was transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville with critical, life-threatening injuries.
Preliminary investigation shows the driver was traveling northbound on West Brown Road. For an unknown reason, he failed to properly negotiate a curve, drove off the roadway, and struck a tree. No other vehicles were involved and there were no passengers in the vehicle.
The crash is being investigated by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit. Crash investigators are working to determine if speed, alcohol, or illegal substances were contributing factors to the crash.
