On May 15, 2018, the Lake County Sheriff’s Gang Task Force received a tip regarding an individual living in Zion, who was receiving large quantities of cannabis via a package delivery service.
Members of the Sheriff’s Gang Task Force responded to the residence in the 3000 block of Emmaus Avenue, Zion. They met with the homeowner, Juan C. Martinez-Cervantes, 21, and spoke with him about the tip. After speaking with Martinez-Cervantes, detectives located over 5,100 grams (over 11 pounds) of cannabis inside the residence.
Martinez-Cervantes was arrested and subsequently charged with Unlawful Possession of Cannabis with Intent to Deliver (Class X Felony) and one count of Unlawful Possession of Cannabis (Class 1 Felony).
Martinez-Cervantes remains held in the Lake County Jail on $75,000.00 bail. He is next due in court on June 13, 2018, at 1:30PM in courtroom C-120.
Sheriff Curran reminds the public the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
