On Thursday, May 3, 2018, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Warrants team and U.S. Marshals Service – Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force (USMS-GLRFTF), in conjunction with the U.S. Marshals Service – Lone Star Fugitive Task Force (USMS-LSFTF) apprehended Jose H. Aponte, 38, of the 3300 block of Eric Boulevard in Park City, IL.
Aponte was wanted on a felony warrant for one count of Predatory Criminal Sexual Assault and four counts of Aggravated Criminal Sexual Abuse with a $250,000 bond. The warrant was obtained after Park City Police Department detectives began investigating a report that Aponte had engaged in sexual conduct with a juvenile.
On April 11, 2018, a Lake County judge issued a warrant for Aponte’s arrest. On April 16, 2018, a fugitive investigation began into the location of Aponte. The Lake County Sheriff’s Office and members of the USMS-GLRFTF attempted to locate Aponte and were unsuccessful. They learned Aponte likely fled to Texas to avoid apprehension.
On May 3, 2018, Task Force Officers developed a location for fugitive Aponte in Killeen, Texas. Aponte was observed by members of the USMS-LSFTF as he left a local retail store. Task Force Officers were able to safely apprehend fugitive Aponte as he was approaching his vehicle. Aponte was taken into custody and transported to the Bell County Sheriff’s Office in Texas where he remains held pending an extradition hearing.
