The Lake County Sheriff’ Office issued 122 citations during the state-wide distracted driving campaign. The increased enforcement was part of the national Distracted Driving Awareness Month effort supported by the Illinois Department of Transportation.
“Driver distraction is a persistent issue in Lake County and often has life-altering consequences,” said Sheriff Curran. “We implemented this enforcement action to encourage motorists to drop it and drive.”
During the two-week campaign that ran April 16-30, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office issued:
- 94 electronic communication device citations
- 5 suspended/revoked licenses arrests/citations
- 7 uninsured motorists arrests/citations
- 16 other citations
- 122 total citations
“Distracted Driving Awareness Month may be over, but the Lake County Sheriff’s Office will continue working to stop residents from engaging in this deadly behavior,” Curran said.
