On April 18, 2018, at 12:23 PM, Lake County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to Route 120 at Ellis Drive in Volo for a traffic crash with injuries. When deputies arrived, they found off-duty paramedics administering CPR to one of the involved parties.

Preliminary investigation shows a red sport utility vehicle driven by a 55-year-old female from Gurnee was eastbound on Route 120 west of Ellis Drive. For an unknown reason, a white sedan driven by a 24-year-old woman from Round Lake Park entered the eastbound lanes of Route 120 and was struck by the red sport utility vehicle. The driver of the white sedan was transported to the hospital where she was pronounced deceased. The driver of the red sport utility vehicle was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The identification of the deceased is being withheld pending positive identification and notification of her next of kin. The Lake County Coroner’s Office scheduled an autopsy for this morning.

The investigation will continue through the Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Team.
