On April 3, 2018, at approximately 4:55 PM the Lake County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a single-vehicle crash on Route 45 north of Grand Avenue in unincorporated Lake Villa. Witnesses reported the vehicle went off the roadway and struck a gas line.
Upon arrival, deputies located a significantly damaged 2000 Red Ford Expedition on the east side of the roadway. The vehicle had struck a gas line which was actively leaking. Deputies were able to remove the driver and sole-occupant from the vehicle away from the scene of a large gas leak. The driver was identified as a 16-year-old male subject from Antioch, Illinois.
Preliminary investigation shows that the driver was traveling southbound on Route 45 when he left the roadway for an unknown reason, striking a tree and gas line. The driver was transported to Advocate Condell Hospital in Libertyville with critical injuries.
The incident remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit.
