[ARCHIVED] Wanted Felon Flees After Crashing into Squad Car

POWELL

On March 12, 2018, at approximately 1:30 PM, members of the United States Marshals Service-Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force (USMS-GLRFTF) along with Waukegan Police Department attempted to arrest Jacob T Powell, 29, of the 3000 block of Belvidere Rd in Waukegan. Powell was wanted for Unlawful Possession of Weapons by Felons (Class 2 Felony), Aggravated Fleeing a Police Officer (Class 3 Felony) and Possession of Defaced Firearm (Class 3 Felony).

Members of the GLRFTF and Waukegan Police Department surrounded Powell while he sat inside his vehicle in the parking lot of the Red Roof Inn at 3031 Belvidere Rd in Waukegan. Powell was told to exit his vehicle. Powell put his vehicle in reverse and struck a Waukegan Police squad car. Powell drove forward over the concrete curb and onto the grass.

Powell drove into Gurnee where he lost control of his vehicle, due to a flat tire, near Grand Ave and O’Plaine Road. Powell exited his vehicle and ran from police. Members of the GLRFTF lost sight of Powell near Robin Ln in Gurnee.

Lake County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Diesel located Powell under a deck. Powell refused to exit from under the deck and K-9 Diesel apprehended Powell.

Powell was transported to Vista Medical Center for his injuries. Powell was released and transported to the Lake County Jail. He was charged with resisting a peace officer and obstructing a peace officer.

Additionally, Waukegan Police Department obtained a search warrant for Powell’s hotel room at the Red Roof Inn. Waukegan Police Department charged Powell with two counts unlawful possession of a controlled substance, two counts intent to deliver, two counts delivery of a controlled substance within 500ft of a school, possession of a weapon by a felon, damage to state supported-property, driving while license revoked, and no insurance.

Powell is currently being held on a $300,000.00 bond. He is scheduled to appear in court on April 4, 2018, at 1:30 pm.
