On February 20, 2018, at approximately 12:40AM, Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to North Fairfield Road north of Route 176, Fremont Township, for a traffic crash with injuries. When sheriff’s deputies arrived they found a person seriously injured, who’d been pinned between two vehicles.
Preliminary investigation shows two box-style trucks, owned by the same refrigeration company, were traveling southbound on North Fairfield Road, north of Route 176. The driver of the front truck, a 47 year-old man of Elgin, pulled over to the side of the road to adjust the load in the rear of the truck. The driver of the following truck, a 45 year-old man of Bloomingdale, also pulled over to assist.
It appears the 45 year-old didn’t place his truck in park prior to exiting to assist his co-worker. The box truck driven by the 45 year-old then rolled into the 47 year-old, as he was standing between the two vehicles. The 47 year-old was seriously injured. He was subsequently transported, via ambulance, to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, where he was pronounced deceased.
The 45 year-old was not injured during the incident.
An autopsy will be conducted on the 47 year-old by the Lake County Coroner’s Office on February 21, 2018. The crash remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit.
