On January 29, 2018, Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a residential burglary at a residence in the 38300 block of North Fairfield Road, Lake Villa Township. Entry was forced to a window of the home and a .40 caliber firearm, electronics, clothing, and other items were stolen.On February 1, 2018, the victim of the burglary was at a dining establishment in Round Lake Beach. He saw an individual wearing a pair of his shoes stolen during the residential burglary. The victim knew the shoes were his, as the shoes had unique markings.The victim called Round Lake Beach Police to report he found his shoes. Round Lake Beach PD responded to the scene and notified the Lake County Sheriff’s Office. Sheriff’s Deputies transported Dakota R. Koch, 23, of the 0-100 block of North High Point Road, Round Lake, to the Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Divisions. Sheriff’s Detectives spoke to Koch and developed information indicating Koch was directly responsible for the residential burglary. Sheriff’s Detectives subsequently recovered the .40 caliber firearm and electronics stolen by Koch during the burglary.Koch was subsequently charged with Residential Burglary (Class 1 Felony) and Theft (Class 3 Felony). Koch remains held in the Lake County Jail pending an initial court hearing this morning.Sheriff Curran reminds the public the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
