[ARCHIVED] Sheriff’s Gang Task Force Arrest Man for Gun, Drug Offenses

Luis Lopez

The Lake County Sheriff’s Gang Task Force recently concluded an investigation into the illegal sale of firearms.  The investigation resulted in the arrest of Luis C. Lopez, 23, of the 400 block of Sussex Court, Park City.

During the course of the investigation Lopez illegally sold a firearm to an undercover Gang Task Force Detective.  On January 12, 2018, an arrest warrant was issued for Lopez for Unlawful Sale of a Firearm (Class 4 Felony - $75,000.00 bond).

Later the same day members of the Sheriff’s Gang Task Force conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle Lopez was driving.  Lopez was found to be in possession of cocaine and cannabis, both packaged in a manner consistent with the sale of narcotics.  Additionally, Lopez was found to be in possession of another firearm and illegal prescription medications.

In addition to the arrest warrant Lopez was also charged with:

Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Deliver (Class 1 Felony)
Unlawful Possession of Cannabis with the Intent to Deliver (Class 3 Felony)
Two Counts of Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance (Class 4 Felonies)
Unlawful Possession of Cannabis (Class 4 Felony)
Possession of a Firearm without a FOID card (Class A Misdemeanor)

Following a bond hearing, Lopez was released from custody after posting ten percent of his $25,000.00 bond.  He is next due in court this morning at 9AM in courtroom C-120.

Sheriff Curran reminds the public the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
