Influenza cases are steadily increasing in Lake County and are at “high” levels in the state of Illinois.
During this time of increased influenza activity, the Health Department recommends that Lake County residents limit their visits to hospitals. If you have acute respiratory illness symptoms such as a fever, cough and/or sore throat, do not visit patients in the hospital. If your visit is necessary, wear a mask over your nose and mouth. Patients in isolation for influenza should only be visited by persons who are necessary for the patient’s emotional well-being and care.
Protect yourself and others from illness by remembering to Clean, Cover and Contain:
- Clean your hands regularly with soap and water or hand sanitizer.
- Use a tissue or your arm to cover coughs and sneezes.
- Contain your illness by staying home and resting.
