On January 4, 2018, at approximately 11:15PM, a Lake County Sheriff’s Deputy on patrol discovered a serious traffic crash on Route 83 just north of Route 22 in Long Grove. Due to the severity of the injuries the sheriff’s deputy requested additional resources.
Preliminary investigation shows a 2004 Jeep Liberty, driven by a 78 year-old woman of Arlington Heights, was traveling northbound on Route 83. For an unknown reason, the driver of the Jeep lost control of the vehicle, crossed the center median and struck a southbound 2015 Subaru Outback, driven by a 62 year-old woman of Vernon Township.
The driver of the Jeep was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle. She was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the Subaru was transported via ambulance to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington with non-life threatening injuries.
The Long Grove Fire Protection District and the Lake County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene. The Lake County Coroner’s Office will conduct an autopsy on the 78 year-old this morning.
The crash remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit.
The Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team also assisted at the scene.
