On December 24, 2017, at approximately 5:58PM, Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to the area of Route 59, south of Route 22 in North Barrington for a traffic crash with injuries. When sheriff’s deputies arrived, they located two vehicles with extensive damage, one of which was partially submerged in water west of the roadway.
Preliminary investigation shows a Toyota Corolla, driven by a 63 year-old female of Arlington Heights, was traveling northbound on Route 59, south of Route 22. A Toyota Highlander was traveling southbound on Route 59 in the same area. The driver of the Corolla lost control and traveled into the southbound lanes of traffic, striking the Highlander, driven by a 55 year-old male of Round Lake Beach. The Corolla then drove off the west side of the roadway into a wetland area. The Corolla was partially submerged in the water.
Lake Zurich Rural Fire Protection District personnel rescued the driver from the Corolla along with a passenger, an 86 year-old female of Lake Barrington. The passenger was transported to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge with critical injuries. The driver was transported in serious condition to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington.
The driver of the Highlander was transported to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, along with the passenger, a 55 year-old female of Round Lake Beach.
The crash remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit.
