***Fatal Antioch Township Hit & Run***

On November 26, 2017 at approximately 1:37AM, Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to a traffic crash with injuries in the area of Route 59 and Grass Lake Road, Antioch Township. When Sheriff’s Deputies arrived they located two vehicles with major damage.

Preliminary investigation shows a 2015 Chevrolet, driven by a 26 year-old woman of Youngtown, Arizona, was traveling northbound on Route 59, south of Grass Lake Road.  A 2007 Volvo, driven by a 41 year-old man of Antioch Township was traveling northbound behind the Chevrolet.

As both vehicles proceeded northbound, the driver of the Volvo rear-ended the Chevrolet, for an unknown reason.  This caused both vehicles to lose control.  The Chevrolet left the roadway and struck a tree.  The driver was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The Volvo also struck a tree and the driver fled the scene on foot.  A Lake County Sheriff’s Office Canine Team responded to perform a scent-track of the fleeing driver.  The driver was located at his nearby residence.

Charges in the incident are pending further investigation.

The crash remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit.

Antioch Police Department assisted during the incident.
