The Lake County Sheriff’s Office conducts alcohol compliance checks at Lake County liquor selling establishments. The compliance checks are designed to ensure businesses vending alcohol are not selling to anyone under the age of 21.
Of the 60 establishments tested, two of them sold alcohol to someone under the age of 21.
Of the two establishments in violation, one clerk failed to check the identification of the underage customer and one clerk checked the identification, but sold alcohol to the underage person anyway.
Sheriff Mark Curran said, “We expect liquor selling establishments to take their responsibilities seriously and help keep our youth safe. Time and time again, underage drinking proves to have tragic results. I encourage parents to speak with your children about the dangers and risks of alcohol and drug use.”
The establishments and clerks in violation are:
Establishment:
BP Gas Station
37025 North Green Bay Road
Beach Park, IL
Clerk:
Donaldhy R. Delgado, 21
Establishment:
Country Corner Store
1741 Diamond Lake Road
Mundelein, IL
Clerk:
Sejal Patel, 47
The clerks in violation were ticketed for selling liquor to a minor. Both are required to appear in Waukegan court.
Sheriff Curran reminds the public the defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
