[ARCHIVED] New Laws Go Into Effect in 2017

Organ donor registry age lowered: This allows driver's license or identification card applicants who are 16 years old or older (rather than 18) the opportunity to be included in the First Person Consent organ and tissue donor registry.

Hate crime protection: Cyberstalking, transmission of obscene messages and certain acts of intimidation can be considered hate crimes.

Domestic violence: Survivors of domestic violence can petition to keep their current cell phone numbers without the approval of the primary account holder as part of an order of protection.

Passing cyclists on no-passing zones: Motorists can pass bicyclists in no-passing zones, bicyclists will be permitted to drive on road shoulders, and at night bicyclists can use ared tail light instead of or in addition to the standard red reflector.

Consumers online reviews protected: Protects the right of customers to leave negative reviews online as it will be unlawful for companies to threaten or penalize a consumer for making a protected statement.

Elephants: Illinois will become the first state to ban the use of Asian and African elephants in circuses and other traveling exhibits.

Prices must be listed
: Dry cleaners, barbers, hair salons, and tailors are required to provide price lists for standard services upon request.
