[ARCHIVED] Juvenile Arrested After Pointing Replica-Rifle at Others, While Wearing Mask

Rifle and Mask

On December 16, 2017, at approximately 3:20PM, Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a report of a person armed with a gun in the area of Route 83 and Route 53 in Long Grove.  A 911 caller reported seeing a passenger inside of a Honda Accord wearing a mask, armed with a rifle.  The witness said as the Honda was traveling northbound on Route 83, the passenger pointed a rifle at him and other vehicles on the roadway.

While Sheriff’s Deputies were responding, Lake County Sheriff’s Telecommunicators notified Mundelein Police Department of the situation, as the Honda was traveling toward Mundelein.  Mundelein Police Officers located and conducted a traffic stop on the Honda in the area of East Orchard Street and Route 45, Mundelein.

Sheriff’s Deputies arrived and determined the person wearing the mask and pointing the rifle was a 17 year-old boy, of Mundelein.  It was determined the rifle was a toy replica M-16 rifle.  The 17 year-old was arrested and subsequently transported to the Hulse Juvenile Detention Facility.  He was petitioned to juvenile court on three counts of Aggravated Assault.

Sheriff Curran reminds the public the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
