Committees & Commissions

Housing & Community Development Commission

The Housing & Community Development Commission has primary responsibility for developing the County’s community development policies in the Consolidated Plan and carrying them out through the Annual Action Plan. These activities are funded by the Department of Housing and Urban Development through CDBG, HOME Investments Partnerships, ESG and other grant programs. The Commission advises the Health and Community Services Committee and the Lake County Board to approve and adopt these policies. The Housing & Community Development Commission consists of seventeen members including: representatives of the County Board, mayors or village presidents, and local citizen representatives. The chairs of the County Board and the Community and Economic Development Committee serve as ex-officio members. Commission members are appointed by the County Board Chair with County Board approval.

Health & Community Services Committee

The Health and Community Services Committee is a standing committee of the Lake County Board responsible for community development activities, housing activities, tourism activities, economic development activities, budget and ordinance review for the Lake County Health Department and the Tuberculosis Clinic, and all health-related issues. The Committee also oversees the Health Department, Regional Superintendent of Schools, Veteran’s Assistance Commission, Winchester House, Workforce Development Board, local Chambers of Commerce, the Lake County Convention and Visitors Bureau, the Community Development Commission, Affordable Housing Commission, and Lake County Partners. The committee is comprised of seven County Board members appointed by the County Board Chair with County Board approval.
 

Energy and Environment Committee

The Energy and Environment Committee is responsible for sustainability and climate change impact, environmental health, energy management, the County's carbon footprint, energy and environmental policy, energy and environment legislation, and recycling.

Public Works, Planning and Transportation Committee 

The Public Works, Planning and Transportation Committee is a standing committee of the County Board that meets the two Wednesdays preceding the County Board meeting. It is responsible for County transportation, water districts, sanitary districts, land use planning, comprehensive planning, and building and zoning issues.

Zoning Board of Appeals

The Zoning Board of Appeals conducts public hearings to consider zoning text and map amendments, conditional use permits, variations and administrative appeals. The Zoning Board of Appeals renders final decisions on variations, administrative appeals and certain conditional use permits and recommends to the County Board on other matters. The board consists of seven members and two alternate members appointed by the County Board Chair with County Board approval.
