Disease surveillance is important to detect potential outbreaks of illness within Lake County. Communicable Disease staff verify reports of diseases, outbreaks and conduct investigations on reportable diseases in Illinois.
The Communicable Disease program serves as a resource for the general public, schools and day cares as well as community and medical entities regarding infectious diseases, infection control and prevention and pandemic preparedness. All reportable diseases in Illinois (except tuberculosis, HIV/AIDS and sexually transmitted infections) are reported to the CD program.
