About the Commission

Here in Lake County, Illinois, we appreciate the dedication and commitment of the men and women who have served in the United States Military. In honor of your service, we have numerous resources to help support you and your families. You have served your country; now let us work for you.

If you are a military veteran, there are plenty of local resources to help support you and your family. If you are in need of assistance, no matter what your area of need, start with the Lake County Veterans Assistance Commission (VAC). All of our services are offered at no cost.

Services & Resources

Military Veterans Assistance Act

The VAC of Lake County was established in 1926, pursuant to Chapter 330 of The Military Veterans Assistance Act. The act allows the commission to:
  • Promote the welfare of honorably discharged veterans of military service, and their families
  • Act as a central service office for all veteran organizations included as members of the commission
  • Have general oversight of the distribution of emergency assistance to military veterans and their families
