School Suicide Prevention Program

Adolescent suicide is a major public health problem. One of the most widely-used strategies to prevent youth suicide is school-based "gatekeeper training", where teachers, school staff and administrators are trained to recognize warning signs of youth suicide and assist with the referral of at-risk kids to a mental health professional. The “Project Safety N.E.T.” Training Program is offered to schools by Dr. John Jochem of Hawthorn Counseling Group. This is a free, one-hour training event conducted on-site in schools which gives educators the tools they need to intervene with students of concern. I encourage school administrators to make use of this program and highly recommend that they contact Dr. Jochem by email or visit the website to schedule training for staff. Dr. Jochem's presentation is available below.
