Certified Communities have been delegated authority by SMC under the Lake County Watershed Development Ordinance (WDO) to administer all, or portions of, the WDO within their community limits.

The Lake County WDO regulates new development including government projects, residential, commercial and industrial development, public roads as well as some home additions and the redevelopment of existing sites.

The Lake County WDO Permit is required when a project is located in a floodplain or flood-prone area.
A Lake County Watershed Development Permit (WDP) is required for any development that proposes to impact Waters of the United States (WOUS) or Isolated Waters of Lake County (IWLC).
